Iwon

Tell a Friend About This Page

Overview: Iwon is a new search engine that rewards users with contest entries the more they use the search engine service

Iwon originally launched in October of 1999 and has seen significant growth into a large internet portal, mostly thanks to its cash giveaways for using their services. With over $2 million given away every month to use a search engine, many people have found this search engine an excellent alternative to the major portals. Furthermore, Iwon uses many of the same technologies (Inktomi and Direct Hit) as their rivals making it essentially a reward based search engine similiar to the competition.

Submission & Ranking Process

Search Technologies Iwon uses the following technologies (in order):
  • Looksmart Category Matches
  • Inktomi Powered Results
  • Direct Hit Results
  • Moreover.com News Services

  • META Tags Iwon makes extensive use of META tags, particularly the Keywords and Description Tag and the title of your page

Spidering Iwon will spider or follow all links it finds on your website and index them into their database. You can control the degree of spidering through a standardized robots governing file or META tags [See Robots Generator]

Popularity Counts If lots of websites link to your site, then your site will be ranked higher in Iwon's rankings.

No Abuse Tolerance Abusing META Tags or spoofing their search robot may get your website lower rankings or even blacklisted. Limit repeating keywords in the META tags

Submission Time Getting listed in Iwon takes about 3 weeks, but requires that you have a membership to their services before allowing you to do so (free membership).
