Overview: Use descriptive keywords in your titles helps increase your search engine rankings.

Most search engines extract your title HTML tag when reporting your website in search results to users. This is often the phrase that a user will read and will use this to decide whether to click through to visit your website. As a result, webmasters should use their title tags to their advantage to pull the attention of users. Avoid vague usage of titles and include as much relevant information and descriptions as possible that a user needs to know about your site. Remember, this is probably the only sentence that a user will see when they decide whether or not to click through. Let's take a look at a few examples as shown below:

Example Usage

Title Before
Title After
Notes and Comments
Sunshine LimitedSunshine Limited: Sun Lotion, Sun Tan and Skin Care SolutionsThis example took the original company name and added many of the company's products and services into the title field. Its important to focus as well on what you provide and sell, not just your name, since most people don't know your company name when searching.
Sunshine LimitedSunshine Limited: New England's Sun Tanning and Lotion ProviderThis example took the original company name and added geographical location, and some of the company's services. Using your location in the title field is usually used if you intend on targeting a specific market, in this case, New England.
Sunshine LimitedSunshine Limited: Lowest Prices on Sun Lotions and Sun TansThis example took the original company name and added descriptive keywords (lowest prices) and combines the products the company offers. Using this form of title tag is intended to grab the attention of your audience using the eye-catching keywords.
Notice: Sunshine Limited is a fictional company name used for this example
