Overview: Infospace's database is powered by the Netscape Open Directory Project and the Inktomi database for secondary results

Founded in 1996 with the vision of delivering real world information anytime, anywhere and to any device, Infospace has become a major player in under 4 short years. In late 1998, Infospace became a public company on the NASDAQ and continues to innovate its services and fulfilling its anytime-anywhere-any device mission. Infospace licenses and uses the Netscape Open Directory Project for its primary site results and then uses a combination of GoTo and Inktomi's results as secondary results.

Submission & Ranking Process


Getting Listed in Directory Services Since Infospace uses the Open Directory Project database, submitting directly into Infospace is not possible. Instead, follow the submission tips on the Open Directory Project and your site will automatically appear in Infospace once approved in the Netscape index.

Getting Listed in Inktomi Powered Results Getting listed into Inktomi's database is usually easily done by submitting your site through a partnering website such as Hotbot or Canada.com. Since Infospace uses Inktomi's database directly, submitting your site into Infospace is not possible. Instead, follow the submission tips on Hotbot or Canada.com and your site will automatically appear in Infospace once spidered by Inktomi.

Submission Time Getting listed in Infospace is usually instantaneous once your site becomes ranked in a partner's search database (Wait time varies per partner). Since GoTo is the fastest submission partner, we suggest you use GoTo to submit your site through (see additional information on GoTo).

Insider Tips Getting listed in Inktomi's results can be expediated in under 2 weeks when you use a smaller search partner such as Canada.com. Read our suggested tips on Canada.com for more information.
